THE CJR ENGAGES 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç STUDENTS

Student Initiatives

Our Student Initiatives educate 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç students about the injustice around them, equip them to face the challenges of our age well, and engage them in the justice work happening in our communities.

Cup of Culture

The Cup of Culture series – sponsored in partnership with the Office of Multicultural and International Student Services – is a forum to foster dialogue about diversity, inclusion, justice, and reconciliation. We seek to challenge our community to explore our individual identities (racial, ethnicity, nationality, ability, gender, etc.), understand the experiences of others, identify how systems contribute to oppression, and work together toward a more just society. The Justice Cohort

The Justice Cohort is a year-long program made up of 10 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç students who explore topics of justice through education, training, and community engagement. Together, the Justice Cohort explores the following topics through weekly meetings: what is justice, immigration, human trafficking, racial justice, and fair trade and sustainability. Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate of achievement, Intercultural Pathways credit, and the knowledge and skills to enter into the work of justice. Email cjr@pointloma.edu to learn more.

Roots of Giving

In our age of consumerism, it can be easy to overlook the unethical supply chains behind the gifts we give at Christmas time. Roots of Giving – an annual student-led event – brings together local artisans, farmers, immigrant businesses, and other community members to sell their justly created goods. The event is hosted on the first Friday in December and is open to the community.

Live Justice

Live Justice is an annual event to raise awareness and equip 2021¹ú²úÂ鶹¾ç students with tools to live out the principles of justice in everyday life. The event focuses on five themes to help us do better for people and the planet: Drink, Do, Wear, Eat, and Live. This year, Live Justice will be hosted on the Cunningham Lawn on Friday, March 31st from 4 - 7 p.m. Enjoy free coffee and tea, participate in a clothing swap, make cards for community ministries, engage in our interactive art and educational displays, and more!
