Sociology, minor

Sociology, minor

Program Overview

You are curious about how culture, organizations, and relationships affect people's daily lives and behavior. You want to understand how the interlocking systems of social institutions function together — institutions like education, healthcare, the state, markets, religion, and family. You wish to bring a sense of justice and equality to the social world. You are willing to see things differently than most, because sociologists look behind the veil of cultural assumptions. If these statements resonate with you, consider adding a minor in sociology.

Sociology helps us better understand human society and social behavior. Within the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Family Sciences, you will be able to explore the social institutions, connections, and patterns in your world so that you can more easily navigate them, and maybe even change them for the better. Action-oriented opportunities both inside and outside the classroom will equip you to work with many populations and issues in the U.S. and elsewhere. A minor in sociology is a great complement to any bachelor's degree and can help set you apart and prepare you to make an immediate impact in a variety of industries and careers.
